The title LL.M. is not so common in the Czech environment yet. However, it is worthwhile for Czech attorneys to focus on it. Why?
The LL.M. degree brings new knowledge in the field of law
The LL.M. is one of the internationally recognised non-academic professional degrees. In the Czech Republic, it corresponds to a Master’s degree in law and is therefore the next educational level after the Bachelor’s degree.
This degree is classified as a lifelong professional education and does not entitle its holder to sit for the bar examination. For lawyers, paralegals, notaries or legal specialists, it is more of an extension course.
This study has also gained considerable popularity among entrepreneurs and members of statutory bodies. It allows to gain insight into the legal and economic background of companies and corporations.
The LL.M. degree can therefore also be useful for graduates of other study programmes who need to broaden their qualifications in this direction. This applies, for example, to those working in public administration. Above all, the knowledge is focused on the area of economic and company law.
The LL.M. is an advantage in an international environment
Another reason why this degree is important is the move beyond the domestic legal space. The graduate’s chances of obtaining a job with an international company increase significantly. Especially for American companies, foreign degrees are much easier to understand.
For this reason, this degree is also popular with already graduated attorneys. They thus show that they have a specialised legal education and are sufficiently qualified to work in an international legal environment.
The LL.M. degree is thus largely complemented by adult students who have already established a certain working position.
