The toughest challenge awaits students after they graduate. Entering the workplace. Why is this often a problem?
Why can recent graduates have problems finding a job?
Finding a job in the labour market can be very complicated for graduates. The particular field of study has an impact, of course. IT students do not have to worry too much about their place on the labour market, while arts graduates head to the job centre much more often. However, many other seemingly promising fields of study also find it difficult to find work after graduation. As a group of the economically active population, recent graduates are considered to be at risk. They are not equipped with enough experience.
Schools are often unable to equip their students not only with knowledge but also with adequate skills. Individuals fresh out of school often do not have the relevant competences to perform the activities related to their jobs.
How to address the employability of graduates
The situation has a solution. Teaching should be based on an intensive link with practice. This means not only providing knowledge that can be realistically applied to subsequent careers, but also integrating students into the workplace at the study stage.
One of the other factors that brings adaptability is instilling in students a willingness to learn new things. Following the rapid development of modern technology, the job descriptions of many existing professions will change very frequently. Many of today’s positions will disappear and others are yet to be created.
The European Training Academy includes all these factors in its training programmes. It offers its students cooperation with partner companies during their studies. This helps students to gain not only their first professional experience but also valuable contacts. After completing their studies with partner companies, they can gain stable employment.
